The number of border crossings at Gongbei Checkpoint surpassed 460,000 on Saturday, Nov 24, a third single-day record for this year. All lanes were opened to expedite clearance during peak hours and travelers flowed smoothly.

The previous two records for single-day passenger flow were set at 440,000 on Saturday, April 21 and 446,600 on Saturday, Nov 17.

Gongbei Checkpoint, located in south Gongbei of Xiangzhou District, is the main port of the Chinese mainland to Macao, the northern part of which shares a peninsula with Zhuhai.

November has seen an influx of visitors to the China Aviation & Aerospace Exhibition (Airshow China), WTA Elite Trophy Zhuhai, 5th China International Circus Festival, 2018 Hengqin Musical Festival & Electric Daisy Carnival (EDC), and the like. Macao, which has staged vigorous drives for the 2018 Macao Food Festival, WTCR Race of Macao, and year-end special offers and promotions, has become their supplemental destination.

Macao, the "Las Vegas of the East," has also lured leisure-minded visitors and shoppers, especially those from the Pearl River Delta, to flood in at weekends via Zhuhai.

Gongbei Checkpoint has recorded 120 million border crossings so far this year, up 5 percent compared with last year.
