Zhuhai Energy New Materials Technology started construction of four more lithium-ion battery separator assembly lines in the Gaolan Port Economic Zone on May 8, encouraged by the successful operation of 12 other lines on the same day.

Phase I, just coming into operation, is capable of producing 1 billion sq m of basement membrane yearly while Phase II is designed to add a further 300 million sq m. An advanced wet-laying technique is unique to the production lines.

The first line of Phase II is expected to be put into operation in December with full completion by February 28, 2020. By then, operative lines will cover 24 hectares (59 acres) and generate 5 billion yuan ($734 million) in combined annual output value. Reports indicate that total tax revenue will amount to 400 million yuan ($58 million).

Zhuhai Energy New Materials Technology is a subsidiary of Shanghai Energy New Materials Technology (Semcorp). Planning to become the world’s largest manufacturer of lithium-ion battery separators, the Zhuhai enterprise expanded production to fully apply its R&D strength in this field.

The separator is an important part of lithium-ion batteries and can directly influence battery performance.

The company also specializes in producing high-end coating film.
