Hengqin Island in line for complete hospital facilities
The Hengqin Branch of Zhuhai People's Hospital (Zhūhǎi Shì Rénmín Yīyuàn) will come into Phase I operation in the second half of this year while other extensive medical facilities are developed by a hospital affiliated with Guangzhou Medical University.
Costing 150 million yuan ($21.7 million), the first phase of the branch is an expansion of the current Integrated Outpatient Department of Renmin Hospital. It is located east of Baoxing Road, west of East Ring (Huandao) Road, and north of Tianhe Street and will be primarily renovated from the old facility.

Units are set for internal medicine, general surgery, emergency, radiology, clinical laboratory, ultrasonic imaging, healthcare management, gynecology, pediatrics, and more. Facilities for gastrointestinal endoscopy and chest pain are also planned.
The new branch, with more than 200 medical workers, will be capable of receiving 100,000 outpatients every year and satisfying the basic medical service needs of Hengqin residents over the ensuing five years.

In the meantime, Hengqin's first Grade-III Class-A public Hospital of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University has undergone soft foundation treatment and moved to the design stage. Costing 2.7 billion yuan ($390.7 million), the project is developed by the Administrative Committee of Hengqin New Area and First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University.
The hospital faces Caihong (Rainbow) Road in the north, Hengqin Avenue to the south and South Boya Avenue in the west. It will cover 60,000 sq m (14.8 acres) with floorage of 190,000 sq m (47 acres).
In addition to 500 beds, the facility will have emergency, outpatient, inpatient, and medical laboratory departments, as well as security systems, administrative management rooms, in-hospital living quarters, and outdoor auxiliary infrastructure.
Architecturally, the major part of the hospital is a half-moon-shaped podium structure surrounded by functional buildings. A riverside footpath will connect the architectural cluster, while rooftop and hanging gardens, green-plant corridor, weatherproof spaces, and central waterfall will enrich the interior landscape.
The nearby Hengqin International Life Science Center is another project led by the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University. The private medical institution is funded with a social investment of more than 3.8 billion yuan ($55 million).
Occupying 130,000 sq m (32 acres), the facility is designed to offer more than 500 beds. It will encompass five hospitals each specialized in pulmonary, cardiovascular, neural-cerebral vascular, tumor, and rehabilitation in cooperation with Genesis HealthCare Corp. Genesis is one of the largest long-term care providers with more than 200 skilled nursing centers and assisted living communities in over 10 US states.
Support facilities include commercial apartments, a rehabilitation and elder care park, and anti-aging, holidaymaking healthcare management, sci-tech R&D, and international technological exchange centers. Construction of the first phase is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.
