Design sought for hairpin bypass beneath Haibin Park
Proposals are being elicited to design access lanes and a tunnel that will run under Haibin Park to bypass the hairpin curve and Fisher Maiden on Lovers Avenue in Jida.
The Zhuhai Public Resources Trading Center announced the request for survey-design bids on May 26. The Lingjiaozui Curve Tunnel is expected to cost 170 million yuan ($23.8 million).

With access roads, the project will extend 900 m (984 yd) from Xianglu Bay Beach to the parking lot entrance of the Haibin Beach (City Parlor) Service Center that is under construction near the Dehan Hotel. Planned are 340-m (372-yd) of west and east lines of dual-lane tunnel roads and 300-m (328-yd) of south and 260-m (284-yd) north link roads.
An east-west pedestrian trail, 260 m long and 4.5 m (4.9 yd) wide, is planned from Haibin Park to the park Administration Building, while a pedestrian overpass, 125 m (137 yd) in length and 6 m (7 yd) in width, will span eastward from Haibin Park to Xianglu Bay Beach across Central Lovers Avenue.
Until the tunnel is completed, motorists heading to Yeli Island from Haibin Beach must use busy Central Lovers Avenue. The section of Lovers Avenue between Love Post Office and Xianglu Bay Beach, which bends around the Lingjiaozui Curve and past the Fisher Maiden statue, is under even greater traffic pressure, especially during holidays.
Once operational, the tunnel will leave the peninsular hairpin curve restricted to pedestrians, cyclists, and slow tourist buses.
A tunnel will be built to cut the distance between Love Post Office at City Parlor and Xianglu Bay Beach near Fisher Maiden statue, avoiding the heavy traffic flow along Lovers Avenue.
The Zhuhai Transport Bureau is soliciting public opinion on plans to build a tunnel under Haibin Park, leaving the hairpin curve on the peninsular restricted to pedestrians and slow traffic.
