Updated: 2021-04-30

Faced with huge increases of travelers this May Day holiday, Zhuhai will add 700 more inter-provincial and inter-city coaches, 1,000 chartered tour buses, 244 ferries, 957 flights, and 17 pairs of trains compared with last year.

Based on pre-sale ticket sales, 115,000 people are expect to travel by road, an increase of 180 percent year-on-year; 100,000 on water, up 76 percent; 220,000 through Zhuhai Airport, up 240 percent; and 606,000 by train, up 230 percent, Wei Yongmin, deputy director of the Zhuhai Transport Bureau said at an April 28 press conference.

Sixty-five extra buses will be deployed on 260 more shifts for 30 routes that pass by major tourist attractions, Lovers Avenue, checkpoints, MRT stations (passenger depots), and commercial areas during the holiday.

Outbound passenger peaks are forecast for 5-8 pm today and 9 am to 4 pm May 1, while inbound peaks will be 3-5 pm May 5. There may be traffic jams on National Highway G105 (Gudu Avenue), Guangwan and Zhuhai avenues, and Jinfeng Road.

Popular scenic spots include Chimelong International Ocean Resort, Zhuhai Opera House, Xianglu Bay & Beach, Xiangshan Lake Park New Yuanming Palace, and Sea & Sky (Haitian) Park, according to Zeng Fan of the Traffic Police Detachment of the Municipal Public Security Bureau.

Motorists are advised to plan trips in advance, detour around commercial areas and tourist attractions, and avoid peak periods. Those using public transport should wear facial masks and present a green health QR code.

Vaccine situation

As of April 27, Zhuhai had reported no local confirmed cases for 449 consecutive days and had administered 1.63 million doses of vaccine to 1.49 million people, said Huang Yun, deputy director of the Zhuhai Health Bureau.

The city will deliver second shots from late April to June. Residents can make appointments at a site that offers the same vaccine as their first dose. The recommended interval between shots is 28 to 56 days. Those who fail to adhere to the prescribed schedule should complete the entire vaccination process as soon as possible and there is no need to start over.

It is suggested that two doses of vaccine be from the same manufacturer. However, it is reported that, under exceptional circumstances, one can also choose the same type of inactivated vaccine of a different brand without compromising the effect.

The first shot will be restricted to key groups and those with special conditions during the April to June period, and others should wait until further notice, Huang added.
