Famous pulmonologist Zhong Nanshan, 84, advocated new technologies, concepts, and results to "enable the elderly in the Greater Bay Area to enjoy the most advanced medical technology and achieve health and longevity."

Speaking Nov 20 at the 3rd China International Forum on Elderly Health in Zhuhai, Zhong supported the concept of "no disease, less disease, and minor disease" for the elderly, and promoted a Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Geriatrics Center.

Health for senior citizens should center on the integration of prevention, medical and health care, mathematics, physics, chemistry, and artificial intelligence, he emphasized. Zhong added that the current COVID vaccination rate for those 70-80 is low, and more seniors should be encouraged to receive vaccination.

Zhuhai has an ecological environment suitable for scientific research on medical and health care, Zhong said. Lovers Avenue especially makes people feel relaxed and happy, he pointed out while noting, "Half of health is mental health, and half of disease is mental illness."

The forum addressed "active aging, healthy aging, happy elderly." It focused on geriatric healthcare medicine, medical companies, the elderly health industry, and quality of life of the elderly.

Zhuhai, a co-sponsor of the forum, has a distinctive senior services network that coordinates homes, communities, and facility care, and combines medical care with health preservation to serve 195,200 citizens 60 and over while being a City of Youth & Vigor.

In addition, technological support for senior care and supervision has been available since August 2020 when the handling of old-age care affairs came online. Zhuhai has 36 beds for every thousand seniors. More municipal and district-level public care institutions will be built during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-25).

At the main forum, 20 companies and institutions established a China Elderly Health Industry Cooperation Platform. It promotes cooperation between healthcare service institutions and enterprises, among them By-Health, whose factory in Sanzao, Jinwan District, is one of the most advanced production bases for dietary supplements with strict quality control. By-Health was a prominent exhibitor.

Also at the event, Yu Yaqin, dean of the School of Health at Zhuhai College of Science & Technology, give a report titled "Exploration of Talents Training Models in the Health Industry in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area." And the college's students served as the forum volunteers.

Furthermore, the Macao Neighborhood Association and Zhuhai People's (Renmin) Hospital Medical Group signed a strategic cooperation agreement.

Comments were also made by Chen Zhu, vice chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress; Wang Zhongyu, head of the China Enterprise Confederation and China Enterprise Directors Association; and Guo Yonghang, vice governor of Guangdong Province and Zhuhai Party chief. Among 80 experts, scholars, and academicians attending online or on-site were Wang Jiming, Cheng Jing, and Keiji Kamei, consul general of Japan in Guangzhou.
