New Xiangzhou to establish chronicles center for Greater Bay Area

Updated: 2022-01-14

The City Chronicles Center, now under construction in New Xiangzhou, is set to become a national brand and spiritual place for Hong Kong and Macao residents seeking cultural roots.

The center was appointed as the Greater Bay Area Branch of China Local Chronicles Museum on Aug 20, 2021. The city has attached great importance and established a municipal working group shortly afterwards, noted Zhuhai Deputy Mayor Guo Lishi during his report to the China Local Chronicles Leading Group Office in Beijing on Jan 10.

An expert panel was also established to work out plans for the center's organizations, staffing, and expenditures. Related research outcomes have been collected to compile the Chronicles of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Exhibitions will be held to turn the center into a distinctive and innovative national iconic cultural venue.

Members from the national leading group spoke highly of the center's construction progress and emphasized that the center will be a major innovation in promoting chronicle culture as well as an important platform for the connection of history and culture between Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao.

The City Chronicles Center has seven storeys and a basement at the eastern corner of North Yingbin and East Meihua roads. A floorage of 20,000 sqm (5 acres) is dedicated to comprehensive exhibitions, conservation and research of historical and cultural collections, promotion and education of revolutionary and traditional Chinese culture, academic exchanges, and regional consultations.

The center, together with Zhuhai Workers Cultural Palace, has been furnished and grounds are being landscaped in anticipation of opening in August.
